Liquid waste is defined as any unwanted substance that passes the definition of "liquid". To list a few example, natural excretion, cooking oil, grease and wastewater are all liquid waste.
Liquid waste is not something to be taken lightly because 71% of the Earth's surface is covered in water. Besides that, liquid waste is difficult to deal with. This is said because liquid waste cannot be picked up easily and removed unlike solid waste. Moreover, liquid waste spreads out and easily pollute other sources of liquid if it gets contact with it. Liquid waste also able to soak into soils and groundwater, which will cause a pollution. Pollution caused by liquid waste will then carry over to pollute other plants, animals and even humans.
Household liquid waste can be classified into 2 types:
Sullage Sullage is also known as grey water, which means they are not contaminated with feces. Therefore, these wastes comes from the kitchen and bathroom of the household which do not include excreta from the toilet.
Sewage This is the household liquid waste that contains sullage and blackwater. Blackwater are waste water that are contaminated with feces.
